On April 26, 1986 there is a meltdown at the Cherobyl Plant in Russia. Thousands of people are forced to evacuate their homes and never allowed to return. The Fallout from this event ruins the soil and the contaminated area is shut off to all humans. Once the area was rich in crops with fields as far as the eye could see but today that is not the case. In 2016 workers went in and tried to salvage the land by removing the bad soil what happened was more land was contaminated when the wind picked up and a storm blew in. After this, the dirt crisis, the land (or dead zone) was shut down for good. On the Ukrainian side of the zone, a wall was put up but on the Belarusian side the land is still easily accessed. On occasion scientists and others are allowed in.
No scientists were allowed into the zone for 10 years, from 2016 to 2026. Before the lockout no one had anticipated the change that came to the wolves inside. While scientists were aware that birth defects in the zone were twice as high as they were outside the zone, the animals were determined to be relatively unaffected... that much isn't true anymore. Now in 2116 Wolves started cropping up with abnormal bone growth, odd markings, and odd eye colors. It has gotten worse and the wolves inside no longer are as normal wolves are. Wolves with horns, wings, abnormal colored fur and eyes. These aren't Grey Wolves anymore, they're their own species now. Many call them Dead Wolves, other call them Zone Wolves, and others still call them freaks.
