"i surrender! i surrender!" a blur of white, black, and neon green shouted over the furious squawks of the pursuing birds. rox whined low in his throat at his misfortune as he darted across the deck of one of the trapped, rusted ships. the wreck had made for an interesting exploration, but the young brute hadn't factored in being chased by aggravated birds. the feathered fiends behind him were out for blood and revenge after he'd decided to make a snack of their unborn children. "i only ate one egg, they have four more! what gives?" at first he'd just given the birds weird looks when they started diving after him, but after the first few sharp pecks on his sensitive nose, he learned better. with a heavy, exasperated huff he made a mental note to choose his meals more carefully in the future.
finally he spotted a safe haven. ahead of him loomed the dark maw of an open door into the interior of the ship. he dived in, wincing slightly as a sharp edge caught a knot of his white fur and tugged it free from his skin. luckily, the birds weren't interested in following him in the narrow passages of the old freight ship. rox let out a relieved sigh as he flopped onto his side for a moment to regain his breath.
"rotten little beasts..." he groused irritably under his breath. his small, black nose was throbbing something awful. parting his jaws, rox's long, striped tongue swirled out smoothly and curled around his nose, laving away the pain with a few licks. the alternating green and black writhed around for a moment, more out of boredom than necessity, before swiping back into his mouth in a flash of movement.
with his breath back, rox lifted himself back up and continued poking his way curiously through the ship's innards. his ears swiveled to and fro as the sounds of the waves and birds outside echoed through the hallways, creating a confusing, but beautiful, mess of sound. the wolf giggled slightly under his breath, picking up his lazy pace into a gliding hop of a step, his gait becoming something one would see in the walk of a young deer rather than a young wolf. curious neon green eyes peered about, tail swishing behind him, until they landed on something that really interested him... or more specifically, his stomach. rox stared at the nest perched on a jutting out piece of metal. no other nests around. no other birds. no parents on watch. he could see three, perfect ovals, each an off-white shade. "resist roxy... resist..." he leaped back slightly, body swaying as if he was trying to pull himself away, but his paws refused to move. "fine! but let it be known they made me. i tried, man. i really did~" rox bounded forward, bracing his front paws against the side of the corridor, and let his tongue flick out and up to reach the vulnerable nest. he wrapped his tongue around the first of the eggs, internally cheering himself on, when suddenly-
SQUAWK!
"really?!" he shouted over his shoulder at the approaching bird before scowling down at the egg he had dropped. rox spared the yellow goop and shattered eggshell a sorrowful look before he took off running from yet another angry parent. again he spotted an open door, this one leading back onto the deck, considering the brilliant light shining through. sweet freedom! the white wolf put on an extra burst of speed when he felt a peck on his hindquarters and sailed through the doorway. in yet another wonderful show of luck, he lost his footing when he landed and rolled a few feet from the door and onto the deck, stopping with a painful sounding thump on his back. rox's face twisted into a petulant pout as he stared up at the ironically peaceful sky. "...rotten beasts."

Hmm... Bright green paws hit the ground softly as the Fae considered what she planned to do today. She had not met many wolves so far in her recent explorations. It was... disheartening. She was a wolf, and wolves were social creatures, or, for the most part. It seemed that one could rule nothing out these days. Everyone was an individual, and she could hardly judge. She shok her head. Where was she now? Akuji had a habit of not paying attention to where her feet took her. It was easier to just go with it, and find out what was going on her her mind caught up with her body.
She glanced up at the massive ship before her and did a double take. It was awesome in size, making her shake a little with excitement. She did so love to adventure, and this was interesting new territory to say the least. She strode forward, contemplating how to board this structure. It once must have been greater even than now, back before it was wrecked. Akuji scampered back and forth, finally finding a point where it would be easiest to leap up. She took a running start, only just managing to get herself up onto this over sized thing that was so new and strange to her.
Wide cyan eyes took in the sight before her as she steadied herself. It was even more interesting from here. In her transfixed state, she hadn't even noticed the squawks of birds all around her. She hadn't heard the running paw-steps, nor had she heard the cries coming from another. As she turned, she saw a striped tail disappear into a door that lead to greater mysteries. Who better than Akuji to follow and see what was going on? Whoever that was, they must have been foolish enough to try and steal eggs. The nests, she realized, were everywhere. Too tempting, but she would save that little escapade for later. She let her own ivory and neon striped tail swish back and forth as she approached the door in which this stranger had gone.
Her steps slowed, evening out and becoming as quite as possible, so the sound wouldn't ring through the halls loudly like they had when the other wolf ran in here. A little grin spread across her maw as she walked, then came across a Split, leading either further down the hall, where she could smell the stranger's scent, or into a small room that begged for some quick exploration. That wolf would just have to stay put. She darted in, ears perked, eyes wide, just waiting for something exciting to happen here. She saw a few more nests, not so interesting, and a large hunk of what must have been wood in the corner. Well, this was disappointing. She neared the nests, looking at them with a cautious gaze. Eggs were find, but birds were more her style. And, what luck! There was an opening on the right side of the room, through which a bird flew now. No second thoughts, akuji simply lept up at it, maw held wide and fangs bared. Too easy.
She landed with a soft thud, turning just as the wolf who had caught her attention earlier went flying past and a break neck pace. Huh. She followed at a slow trot, bird tightly gripped in her mouth. True, she loathed the feathers, but birds were good practice for hunting other things. And what fun! She was still grinning when she exited the door, looking down at the wolf who had given an amusing show of something less than graceful. Heck, she herself had recently had a few... incidents. Akuji let her head tilt to the side as she dropped her bird onto the deck, "Maybe you shouldn't go after the eggs? Just a thought... Are you okay?" She might be asking obvious questions, but at least she was bothering. Her tail started wagging back and forth as she watched him. Maybe she would finally make a friend today. Friends were always good.

mismatched eyes flicked open to peer, upside-down at the fae. the sun gleamed in his right eye painfully, causing him to snap it shut to be able to see who had spoken. the ring of neon green narrowed after a moment as his pupil adjusted to the shadows cast on his left side. rox peered at the looming, green-hued face hovering above him for a few seconds before he regained his rattled senses. he let out a small yelp of surprise before he rolled to the side, landing swiftly on all fours. the moment he had his footing (elusive little thing it was) he bounced back and away, leaving a good few feet between the two.
the female before him was interesting enough and, sadly, somehow larger than he was... at least in the shoulders. from the size of her paws and ears in comparison with the rest of her, she appeared young. her coat was white like his and, oddly enough, had similar neon green for markings, though her own were mainly on her body while the only green besides the two stripes on his tail were his eyes and the "freckles" across his nose... and his tongue, but that was in his body... maybe? was it? rox's ears laid flat against his skull as he sat suddenly, pondering internally about whether his tongue's markings were considered on or in his body. "trippy, when ya think about it." rox opened his mouth without thinking, as per usual, to ask his new acquaintance's opinion on the matter.
"hey. if you have markings on your tongue, are they inside or ON your body, huh?" he took a moment to think before he realized she's spoken earlier and rushed to respond. "as for eggs! they're just so tasty! they haven't gotten loud and feathered and mean and rotten and beastly yet! mind you, they are still little..." his gaze drifted to the side as he recalled his earlier insult towards the winged devils. with a rough shake of his head, he turned back to the female. "but anyway, i'm alright, miss! takes more than an old clanker and a few avians to get the best of me. i'm just feeling a bit scrambled at the moment!" "obviously, from all of your blathering! argh, shut up when you're ahead, roxy!" rox admonished himself mentally, tacking on a few lesser insults to drive the point home to himself.
his father would have beat him senseless if he'd heard that. the complete lack of manners began to claw at the back of his mind. rox got carried away, especially when he was around females that weren't related to him. the mix of genetic attraction and being raised as a fellow 'sister' made him feel at ease around them and, unfortunately, that meant he was going against what he'd be raised to act like. even if his actions could be considered girly in the teenager way, tier had wanted proper ladies only. "but father's dead now. he can't do anything. it's alright... i'm free now." he pulled himself away from darker thoughts, hoping this fae wasn't anything like his father. he wanted friends, not more wolves that he had to play as some stiff puppet for. not more pretending. no chains, no roxanne. rox.
"a-anyway ma'am. the name's rox, may i ask yours?" the white brute grinned at her, pressing his tongue against the backs of his teeth nervously. "play it safe rox. just because father isn't around to make you do right... advent still is."

She frowned at the question he asked. Honestly, she had no idea. What might the answer be to such a thing? She didn't feel like puzzling over such a thing just now, but maybe she would come up with something later on. Of course, with her mind, the answer she came up with could pop out anytime, and she wouldn't even care. Whatever, time to bring her mind back to the here and now. It was far more important and exciting.
She considered his answer to the bit about eggs. They were indeed rather delicious. All gooey and not likely to try and peck anyone who came along. They were nice and sat still while you came over to eat them. Not like the adult birds who were not friendly, nor were they inviting. All the same Akuji didn't mind birds a whole lot. If she didn't bother them then all was well and good.
Personally, she learned a few months back that messing with eggs where there were birds around, was not the best of ideas. Actually, that was one of her bigger failures in her short like. She had even managed to fall into a pond. But, what did that matter> she had definately learned her lesson. Be a better sneak when it comes to nests and eggs. Also, there was plenty of bigger game if one knew how to look for it, and it was far more satisfying then little eggs. Those things were hardly worth the trouble sometimes. Unless one was better then she at not getting caught by angry parents. And such didn't seem to be the case with this male she had met. The thought made she laugh softly for a moment before having to drag her head back to reality once again.
She had never been given a great opportunity to learn how to hunt as a pup, and concequently when the Fae set out on her own she had been at a disadvantage. Not that it hurt her terribly. She was quite adept at scavenging for food, and even with her bright pelt she could hide well enough to watch other wolves and learn from them. She had seen both admirable accomplishments that she planned to recreate, and mistakes that she herself now would avoid making. Maybe this whole egg fiasco would be a lesson well learned. Never mind, although she was hungry. And the bird she caught was more a practice target than a actual meal. It couldn't be that difficult to get something better. Or at the least she could try her luck at getting a few eggs. She couldn't fail too miserably at such as thing. Not if she played it right.
She listened to the next words he spoke with interest. A yawn escaped her maw at the moment though, and she had to refocus her mind. Wait, why was she yawning? Silly things, yawns. They liked to mess with her when she so clearly was not even close to tired. Akuji mulled over what the wolf said for a second. So, his name was Rox. Simple enough, not one she would forget. Nice, even. As she watched him she had to admit something in her head said it fit him well enough. Like her name was perfectly fit for herself. But her family was well suited to naming properly. One of the few things she could bother to appreciate about them.
Words swirled in her head and she didn't try and sort them into a sentence herself, the words did such themselves. Even if a reply to his question could be given as simply as the word itself, she had to think it over. Words were so annoying, needing to be placed right and all that. Her voice was simply stated that of a youngster, chipper and curious, having had her fair share of experiences both good and bad but not yet subdued by the trials of life, "That's a good name. I'm Akuji! It's nice to meet you rox." The Fae leaned forward, stretching herself out into a play bow and smiled at Rox, tongue lolling out and tail wagging in that wild way those of adolescents do.

rox scowled slightly as the wolf across from him yawned. his right ear turned down and away, laying horizontal as a confused expression flirted across his face. was she tired or bored? it was dangerous to run around tired in the neutral lands, you never knew who would happen upon you. also, who in their right mind would explore a shipwrecked bucket of bolts infested with feathered devils. and people thought demons had bat wings? "clever disguises. that's all they are." his eyes narrowed slightly at the thought before he zoned back in on the female. she had to be brave to take on those beasts! both of his ears perked back up to tilt towards her in curiosity. hopefully she wasn't bored with him, and if she was, he hoped she was like his family. they just walked away when bored. he remembered a loner he'd run into one time that thought it was good fun to make people "dance" to entertain him... by lashing away at their paws with his devil's tail. "must have been part bird."
at the sound of her voice rox brightened. her equally bright voice made him bounce a little on his paws, wiggling slightly in excitement. "your name is really pretty! it sounds different than a lot of names around here." most of the wolves he met kept true to the russian and balkan regional names. then again, his wasn't the usual variation of roxanne considering their location, but his father had roamed far and wide. many wolves seemed to appreciate their roots and take an interest in foreign packs. "making assumptions, roxy~" "anyway, it's nice to meet you, too! nice wolves can be kinda hard to come across these days." rox's striped tail kicked up behind him, swishing back and forth in a blur of black and green.
he couldn't help but wince slightly as he realized his lie though. while it wasn't a good idea for a male to introduce himself as roxanne, it WAS his given name. he had a feeling that other wolves wouldn't quite understand his situation. growing up under his father's tutelage meant he understood (as best anyone could) his father's goals. he wanted an extensive family, but one that was dependent on him. sons could roam as they pleased and spread the family, but there was nothing to ensure that the mothers and pups would come back to tier. with males, there was always the question of whether they were really the father or not. if tier had a family founded on daughters, he would know that those children were truly his family, that they were of his blood. rox's personality and appearance had been perfect, even if the gender had not, and so tier "overlooked" it, or rather, denied it. sons? what sons? the only sons to ever come of his exploits were dead, slayed the moment they were born.
rox switched his mismatched gaze back up to akuji. could she possibly understand the insanity he was raised in? the conditioning his father put him through? "assumptions aren't polite. advent would have my head." for all he knew, akuji's life could be just as crazy as his. her family could have been murderers or murdered. maybe she had some deranged sibling? a lost lover? forgotten memories? the possibilities were endless. that was one of the laws of chernobyl. there was no such thing as impossible in chernobyl and rox had no right to assume things about this stranger-made-acquaintance. it was the job of whatever higher power(s) existed out there to judge, not his. he couldn't judge them. all rox could do was hope they would offer him the same and ignore those slight, feminine characteristics or his occasional slip of "roxan- i mean-"
shaking off his sense of turmoil, rox let himself bounce backwards before mirroring her pose. he let his chin rest against the metal floor of the ship, forelegs and chest flat to it as well. with a wiggle of his hips he leaped forward, batting playfully at one of her ears. he switched his weight to his back paws, standing on them for a moment, then let himself settle back on all fours. "wanna go give those rotten birds something to be mad about?" what better way to get revenge for a lost lunch than chasing some avian fiends and giving them a run for their money?
[ooc: sorry that took so long. i caught a bad stomach bug a few days ago, but i'm feeling a lot better now.]

When she listened to his response, her head tilted to the side some. Was it, then? She had always pondered the way it fit her so correctly, but had not yet fully explored the possibility of her name being called pretty. It sort of managed to make her happy. But so did many other things. She was a happy kind of wolf. Which, what with so many hostile, weary, or just cautious wolves out there she found to be fun. Of course she had her own shell of cautiousness, but it came and went. Certain wolves required more thought on whether or not to trust them than others. She could just sort of tell. A weird concept and idea, but whatever. It was just how things were. And she was perfectly fine with that.
A nod of acknowledgment was all she really needed to give in response to the other words about nice ones being difficult to find. She would know. Not everyone accepted a wolf like her, with her forward playfulness and an eager to play kind of way about her. Some might think she didn't have a mean bone in her body. Not true. She just didn't like to use anger or unfriendliness unless it was nessicary. Which, it was usually not. Once she got others to warm up to her. Akuji could act like a pup if she wanted, and she didn't really care what anyone thought of it. She was herself. And herself was perfectly fine.
Her own thoughts started drifting a little. They wandered, like she habitually let them do. And rox seemed caught up in his own bit of turmoil for the moment. A question surfaced in her mind suddenly. Silly thing. But she did enjoy puzzeling over possible answers... What she wondered now was if she might end up joining a pack. What an odd thing to think about just then. But, she had not been accepted for long in her old pack. It was an issue. She could be a bit of a dreamer and that had not been something her family members wanted to deal with. What strange wolves they had been. The whole experience with them had left her unsure about whether or not she wanted to join the ranks of another pack. Maybe if this new aquaintence - possible friend - decided to join one she would follow him. It seemed like a nice idea.
But nice ideas did not mean they would work out. Like the idea of staying with her sister all that time ago. Her sibling had known better and made Akuji leave. That was the only one of her sisters and borthers the Fae had liked, too. But the past was the past right? Gah, no. Even if it was no longer a part of the now, it still affected her and how she acted. The past, the way she had heard it, was key in shaping the future. A sage thing to say and think. But she had no more time for these random thoughts. Rox seemed to have come back from his thoughts and she let her tail wag some more at this.
A playful growl rose in her throat when Rox mirrored her stance. Her tail was moving furiously and a small grin tugged at her mouth. When he lept forward, batting at her ear with a playful way of his own, her muscles sprang to life and she growled again as he just managed to land a paw on her ear before she went leaping to the side, Excitement coursing through her veins along with the blood that started pumping faster, heart rising as her energy level did. Her companion landed back on all four feet, and a suggestion was made. Ohh.
A serious look passed over her neon face, deciding if she wanted to join her new found friend in this deviousness. Sure sounded like something she would do. Why, in fact it really was! A smile crept over her, the one that hardly left. It couldn't be helped if she was naturally quite cheerful. Why not go pester the birds? It would be good hunting practice, and she figured the little critters deserved it too.
There was just the shortest of pauses before she stood up, shaking the slightest bit with a rising sense of delight at this idea. It wasn't like she had anything going on at this moment. "That sounds fun!" Her voice held a tone that mimicked the mischievous glint in her eyes, leaving no room to doubt that she thought this was a simply wonderful proposition, nor that she accepted with all she had. "Lets get the little beasties!"
Without further lingering, she trotted along the deck, eyeing the nests that lined the structure she stood on, trying to form a plan of action. Aha! Her bright eyes found a line of the nests, all sitting in a neat little row, on the very edge of the deck. Why, they could fall if someone wasn't careful! She glanced at Rox, wondering what he might think of this. No time for waiting, she was in mischif mode, and that meant action now, thoughts later! She stood on her hind legs, front paws against the side of the boat. No thoughts now. Eggs were snatched out quickly, one crushed in her jaws and the next allowed to roll onto the deck before she shoved the now empty nest off the edge, all smiles and joy.
Soon half the row had been sent off the edge, and she turned, dashing away towards Rox at the sound of a bird's cry. Gah! But, wait... False alarm. Right? She had no pursuers yet. A quick scan of the air and she felt safe again, but circled away from the nests before she returned. Oh, fun! A yip escaped her maw and she sent herself flying at a bird that had been flying too close, missed, and landed. She gave herself a moment to pout at this small failure before she went off again, both waiting for any suggestions Rox mde about what to do, and also sort of winging it. This was way more fun than wandering alone.
